Pricing — Raxx v2 (refreshed anchors + recommendation)

Status: v2 (marketing-strategist, 2026-04-21). v1 preserved at pricing.md. Brand name Raxx is locked.

Pricing verification status: WebFetch and WebSearch were both denied in this session. Every competitor anchor below is from training cutoff January 2026 and carries the attempted URL so a human (or a tool-enabled run) can verify. Flagged [unverified: training cutoff 2026-01]. Before any public-facing use, a human must spot-check every row in the anchor table.

TL;DR recommendation (unchanged from v1)

Three tiers: Free / Pro / Pro+, monthly-first with a 2-months-free annual discount. Pro at $29/mo, Pro+ at $79/mo. Founders promo: see Founders Promo epic (#204) — time-based engagement loop, 3 months free paper trading on Founders signup (original below-sticker offer retired 2026-04-23). Rationale below now grounded against a wider anchor set (adding Public, Robinhood, Trade Ideas, thinkorswim).

Explicit call on Pro at $29

Hold at $29. The widened anchor set reinforces the v1 recommendation rather than unseating it: - Composer Pro at ~$24/mo [unverified: training cutoff 2026-01 — source attempted https://www.composer.trade/pricing] sits just below us, which is correct — Composer is equity-only, less differentiated tooling, lower ceiling. - QuantConnect Quant Researcher at ~$20-30/mo [unverified: training cutoff 2026-01 — https://www.quantconnect.com/pricing] lands in our range for a code-literate persona; we charge the same range for a no-code persona with less operational friction. - Trade Ideas Standard at ~$84/mo and Premium at ~$108/mo [unverified: training cutoff 2026-01 — https://www.trade-ideas.com/pricing/] anchor the high end of the "retail algo tool" category; we are materially cheaper for a more opinionated feature set. - Robinhood Gold at $5/mo [unverified: training cutoff 2026-01 — https://robinhood.com/us/en/about/pricing/] is a different product (margin + instant deposits, not research) so is not a direct anchor; we explicitly do not compete there.

A move up to $39 would cross the psychological "real subscription" threshold retail scrutinizes; a move down to $24 or below would erode the tier gap with Composer Pro and signal we don't believe in the ceiling. $29 is the load-bearing price point.

Explicit call on Pro+ at $79

Hold at $79. QuantConnect's team-tier band (~$60-120/mo, node-scaling) [unverified: training cutoff 2026-01] brackets us; Trade Ideas Premium sits above; Composer's Premium at ~$59 sits below. $79 is correctly positioned between "power user" and "semi-pro" without tipping into "enterprise."

Explicit call on Founders promo

Retired: The original below-sticker, time-bounded Founders offer was retired on 2026-04-23 (decision on record). See Founders Promo epic (#204) for the replacement: a time-based engagement loop where Founders receive 3 months of free paper trading on signup conversion, with additional time earnable via structured feedback and referrals. The first 250-seat cap is preserved for scarcity.

Refreshed competitor anchor table

Take-aways from the widened anchor set

  1. The "$20-30/mo sweet spot" for retail algo tooling is real. Composer Pro, QuantConnect Quant Researcher, and Raxx Pro all live there. Staying in this band maximizes price-to-perceived-value.
  2. Nobody cheap is options-forward. Robinhood, Public, Composer — all the sub-$30 subscription products are equity-forward. The cheap options-forward tools (tastytrade, IBKR Lite) are commission-based brokers, not SaaS. This is the pricing whitespace Raxx occupies.
  3. Trade Ideas validates the $79-120 band for "serious tool." Pro+ at $79 is defensible; traders paying Trade Ideas for equity scanners are in-band to pay Raxx for options proposals.
  4. thinkorswim is "free" only if you hold assets at Schwab. That's the opportunity cost story: TOS is free, but it costs you a Schwab-locked brokerage. Our "bring your own broker + $29/mo" is a price-parity argument against a $0 sticker.
  5. Robinhood Gold at $5 is not our competitor. It's a margin/deposits product with a research skin. Don't benchmark; don't pretend to.

Annual discount — 2 months free (~17%)

Standard SaaS ratio. The v1 rationale is unchanged: enough to matter, not enough to train customers to wait for a sale. Call it "2 months free" in copy, not "17% off" — the former is anchored to a known unit (months of product); the latter reads like a coupon.

Alternatives considered (for completeness)

Alt A — Drop Pro below $29 (e.g., to ~$20 to match QuantConnect's low end). Tempting given Robinhood Gold at $5 and Public Premium at $10, but those are different product categories. Moving down signals "consumer app" and misaligns with the "serious tool" positioning. Reject.

Alt B — Raise Pro+ to $99 for symmetric spacing ($29 / $99, ≈3.4× multiplier). Cleaner pricing optics. Risk: crosses the "I need to ask my CFO" threshold for retail. Reject narrowly — revisit after first 500 Pro+ signups.

Alt C — Usage-metered AI proposals (pay per proposal beyond monthly quota). Discussed in v1; same verdict. Retail hates metered billing. Keep flat-rate with generous quotas.

Handoff to product-manager

The tier structure hasn't moved from v1, so no new engineering scope is implied by this pricing refresh. The existing v1 handoff (billing integration, feature-flag gates for retention + concurrent strategies + AI proposal quota + rate limits + broker connections, entitlement checks, "upgrade" UX) is still the work to be filed.

One net-new analytics ask when the Founders promo ships: cohort tag on the first 250 signups so we can measure conversion to paid tier after the free window and validate the $29 ceiling. Hand that off in a comment on the PM's billing/analytics card — do not file directly.

Open pricing questions (for user decision)

  1. Founders promo 250-seat cap confirmed. The original below-sticker offer is retired; see Founders Promo epic (#204) for the replacement. Cap of 250 seats is preserved.
  2. Annual plan discount framing — "2 months free" vs "17% off" vs "$240/yr" as hero. Recommend "2 months free."
  3. OPRA full-depth options data — add-on at $15/mo or bundled into Pro+? v1 recommended add-on; reaffirm unless Pro+ conversion is weaker than expected in beta.
  4. Refund policy — 14-day no-questions on Pro/Pro+. v1 recommendation stands; no change.
